Queens University of Charlotte offers an undergraduate degree in music therapy (BM) with a minor in psychology.  The curriculum has a strong clinical skills component emphasizing versatile and diverse clinical skills and experiences. Queens is one of the only programs in the USA to provide hands-on experience for freshmen. Queens is one of the few universities in the Southeast with an on-site music therapy clinic. The clinic provides music therapy services to children and young adults with varying abilities. Freshmen begin their clinical training in the clinic under the supervision of a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). In addition to working with clients in the on-site music therapy clinic, sophomores, juniors and seniors receive clinical training in various off-campus sites including educational, residential, and medical facilities.


Dr. Rebecca Engen serves as the director of the program.  She teaches music therapy courses, provides clinical supervision for students in both on-and off-campus practica, and has been a trip leader for the John Belk International Program. Her research interests include vocal health and applications of music therapy in medical settings.

Dr. Varvara Pasiali joined the program in 2010. She has extensive clinical experience working families, children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, and children with behavioral or emotional needs. She also supervises students at off-campus clinical practicum sites. Her research interests include early intervention, prevention, resilience, and parent-child attachment/reciprocity

Mrs. Lauren DiMaio, joined the program in 2015.  She has been a music therapist for 16 years.  She has worked with hospice patients for eleven years. She continues to be passionate about end of life music therapy and bereavement music therapy. Bereavement music therapy, specifically exploring the experiences of a grief choir, is the topic of her dissertation for her PhD in music therapy.

Mrs. Meg Johnson serves as the clinical coordinator of our program. She has over 25 years of clinical experience working with clients in the on site clinic and supervising students.
